Fat Embolism Meaning and Causes

Fat Embolism – it is a type of embolism (which causes a blockage (occlusion) of a blood vessel in another part of the body) that is often caused by physical trauma or a surgery. In 1862, Zenker first described fat embolism at autopsy and in 1873, von Bergmann clinically diagnosed fat embolism syndrome for the first time.Fat Embolism is a condition when a fat has a chance to enter the circulatory system during a surgery or trauma. It may also occur during childbirth.

In United States, Frequency us estimate to 3-4 %. Fat embolism is a clinical diagnosis. Many patients are likely to have a missed diagnosis because of subclinical illness or confounding injury or illness.

So take good care of ourselves. Don’t let our bones to have fractures or trauma. See and ask your doctor if you have the symptoms.
